Bruce Christensen is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. He is also the Head of the Clinical Neuropsychology Service at St. Joseph 's HealthCare, Hamilton . He is trained as a neuropsychologist, obtaining an undergraduate degree in biopsychology from UBC and a PhD in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University . He completed an APA internship in neuropsychology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center (Albert Einstein College of Medicine) and a joint postdoctoral fellowship at the Rotman Research Institute and Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (University of Toronto). Before joining the faculty at McMaster University in 2007, he spent ten years directing the Neuropsychology Lab at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

My research focuses on elucidating the cognitive mechanisms of psychopathology, with a particular emphasis on Schizophrenia. Our research generally favors techniques borrowed from cognitive science rather than conventional neuropsychology. Moreover, we have utilized models of functional brain organization and development from evolutionary neurobiology as a guiding theoretical framework. My lab has also attempted to understand the neural basis for cognitive impairment in psychiatric disorders via the application of various neuroimaging modalities including MRI, ERPs and TMS.
